How to Refresh Your Makeup Routine with Clean Beauty
There's a particular feeling a lot of people describe when they get in touch about lessons. It's not that they dislike how they look, but more so that they feel a bit stuck. They've been doing the same thing for years, it sort of works, but it doesn't make them feel great either.
If that sounds familiar, this one's for you.
Why a makeup refresh is worth doing
Your face changes over time. Your skin changes, your colouring changes, your lifestyle changes. Products that worked brilliantly for you years ago might not be serving you as well now, and techniques you picked up along the way might be making things harder than they need to be.
A refresh isn't about doing more. It's about doing the right things, with the right products, in a way that genuinely works for you.
Start by understanding your skin
This is something I cover in depth in my Natural Makeup Digital Guide, and it really is the foundation of everything. If you're using a foundation that's wrong for your skin type, or a moisturiser that isn't giving your skin what it needs, no amount of clever technique will fully fix it.
Clean beauty products are brilliant here because they tend to be kinder to skin and more straightforward in what they do. Brands like Antipodes, Twelve, and Weleda all feature in my Clean Beauty Product Guide and are great starting points depending on your skin type.
A few simple swaps that make a real difference
Switching to a cream blush instead of powder can instantly freshen up a look and feel much more natural on the skin. The RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek is one I recommend often because it works beautifully on both cheeks and lips for a really easy, cohesive finish.
If your foundation feels heavy or cakey, it's worth trying something lighter. A tinted moisturiser or a sheer foundation applied only where you need it tends to look much more modern and feel better to wear throughout the day.
And if your brows have been on autopilot for a while, spending a little time on them can completely change how polished you look without changing much else at all.
Learn what you're doing and why
This is the bit that makes the biggest difference long term. Not just knowing which products to buy, but understanding how to use them, why they work, and how to adapt depending on the occasion.
My 1:1 makeup lessons are designed exactly for this. We look at your current makeup bag, work out what's serving you and what isn't, figure out what suits your skin type and colouring, and build a simple look you can recreate every day. You'll leave with a shopping list of clean beauty recommendations tailored specifically to you.
